Very interesting background on Revere’s Ride. I have always loved the poem. My grandmother used to tell it like a ghost story when I was younger. She loved Longfellow. One year I taught fifth graders , and the entire class memorized this poem. They loved it too.
And I'm sure your fifth graders are still better for the experience today! It is a great poem, isn't it. Longfellow has been somewhat forgotten over time--not quite to contemporary tastes, I imagine--but he's quite good. (You know he also did a translation of the Divine Comedy?)
